Encouraged by the success of the conference series on Sustainable Development of Energy Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES) we are glad to inform you that starting from 2014 a regional biannual series targeting the region of South East Europe (SEE SDEWES conferences) have been initiated.

The main goals of the SEE SDEWES conferences are:

To provide scientific support to the SEE economies in pursuing the common challenge to commit to, and sustain the implementation of long-term reforms aimed at increasing competitiveness and promoting sustainable, inclusive and balanced development, as well as better integration between the EU Member States, candidate and potential candidate countries and neighboring countries.

To ensure bi-directional knowledge flow, to and from SEE region, providing a venue for the researchers from the SEE region, as well as for world-wide researchers and specialists and those interested in learning about the sustainability of development to present research progress and to discuss the state of the art, the future directions and priorities in the various areas of sustainable development and regional integration.

To make the SDEWES conference more accessible to the SEE academic community, granting reduced conference fee to participants from certain countries in transition and development, as well as region’s non-EU members, Bulgaria, Greece and Romania.

To maintain the same high publishing standard as the main conference, offering opportunities to publish in special issues in the leading international archival scientific journals – “Energy – The International Journal”, “Applied Energy”, “Journal of Cleaner Production”, “Energy Conversion and Management”, “Waste Management & Research”, “Thermal Science”, “Management of Environmental Quality”, “Chemical Engineering Transactions” and others. The past publications resulting from the SDEWES Conferences can be found here.

The 1st SEE SDEWES Conference will be held in the Macedonian pearl, the city of Ohrid, another UNESCO World Heritage site, and in a country which is among the Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2014 – top 10 countries.
