IGU’s President Ron Abler, Secretary-General Mike Meadows and Vice-President Ruth Fincher attended the 28th General Assembly of the ISSC (10-14th December, Nagoya, Japan) and represented the interests of the IGU. As one of the member organisations, IGU involvement in the ISSC is important to establish the geographers’ position within the social sciences and facilitate our interaction with other cognate disciplines such as sociology and political science. Professor Benno Werlen is also present to highlight the important new IGU initiative, the International Year of Geographical Understanding (IYGU)
