Honorable election
The Chair of the IGU Global Understanding Commission has been elected as 2025 Distinguished Fellow of The International Engineering and Technology Institute (IETI). This election occurred alongside colleagues from Harvard University, the University of California, Berkeley, Shenzhen University, the University of Hong Kong and Arizona State University and is an interesting opener for geography.
Advised by nine Nobel Prize laureates, the main aim of the IETI is to conduct collaborative, interdisciplinary research in science, engineering, and technology, and to support innovations in engineering and technology to meet societal needs. The institute comprises over 700 academics, university presidents and research leaders, and has a network spanning six continents, over 100 countries and 99% of the world’s leading academic institutions.
Connecting geography with engineering and technology for societal needs supports not only IGU’s ambition of furthering interdisciplinary cooperation but also its sustainability strategy.
