These maps illustrate the proportion of registered participants for the upcoming 32nd International Geographical Congress at the University of Cologne, Germany. The size of the individual countries is proportional to the number of registered delegates (2400 in all). Naturally, there is domination by the European participants (especially Germany – so that one of the maps excludes the German data to provide a more realistic impression of the global spatial pattern of the country of origin of the delegates).
The maps were compiled by Benjamin D Hennig (University of Sheffield, a former student in Cologne) from the IGC Cologne data base made available by the using the ‘Worldmapper’ software.
