The citation for the award reads as follows:
The Commission is very active and productive. The Commission on Gender and Geography (CGoG) has organised a large number of meetings, seminars and sessions at IGU congresses and conferences, as well other scientific events, in different countries. At the Extraordinary Congress in Paris, where the Commission celebrated its 30th anniversary, CGoG held a pre-congress symposium and nosted 11 sessions. The IGU CGoG also collaborates with other IGU commissions to organise thematic conferences. Academic dissemination is a major concern of the IGU CGaG in the form of chapters, special issues of journals, and books. In addition, it publishes working papers on its website. The website is very regularly and richly populated with information and it is clear that many members of the commission regularly post information including their latest publications. The site features the Commission’s various support instruments for its members, including travel grants and a mentoring programme. Finally, the site hosts the site created and managed by the young members of the Commission: YES! (Young and Emerging Scholars) which is the IGU Gender and Geography Commission’s platform for early career feminist geographers. The Commission has a Twitter account with more than 5,000 followers, and the YES! site includes a link to a blog and to a podcast. The Commission has a very large mailing list (>900), including many from low-income countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The work of the members of CGoG has been widely praised: six members received awards 2022 and four received new research grants. Since 2012, four of its members have been recipients of the IGU Lauréat d’Honneur (2012 ,2016, 2018, 2020). Finally, it is the only commission that includes a financial section in its annual report.
Warm congratulations to the Commission, which was also a winner in 2014.
