Dear Colleagues
At the recent General Assembly of CODATA – the Committee on Data of the International Science Council (ISC) – Mercè Crosas was elected as the first ever female President in its almost 60 year history. CODATA exists to promote global collaboration to improve the availability and usability of data for all areas of research. In our research, geographers of course are reliant on data, in particular big data, as the raw material of our research. Trained originally as a physicist, Mercè Crosas is currently Head of the Computational Social Sciences Program at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). IGU joins the international research community in congratulating her on her appointment.
