IGU Transport and Geography Commission is excited to launch an and invite you to the first and upcoming one on ” Transport Geography Research in and on Africa: Challenges and the Way Forward.”

Africa’s rapid urbanisation presents critical transport challenges, including congestion, lengthy commutes, and limited access to opportunities, compounded by intra-continental connectivity barriers. Transport geography offers vital tools for addressing these issues, yet its impact is constrained by outdated data, limited research funding, and minimal interdisciplinary collaboration. Additionally, African scholars face difficulties publishing in leading journals, restricting the dissemination of knowledge. This workshop brings together experts to tackle these barriers, share solutions, and advance transport geography research, with the aim of addressing Africa’s national and continental transportation needs and promoting sustainable mobility solutions.
